Massey Comment: I like poems that leave lots of room for you (the reader “you”) to roam about and this one leaves plenty. I pack in a bunch of images and moods – but the story? Well, that’s for you decide. Is this a poem about existential despair? Could be. Make it so! Grief? Sounds good, too. The resilience of faith in the face of despair? Go for it! I like that I deliver the black white contrast without actually using the word “white” and I especially like the fact that I seem to have gotten away with words that rhyme right next to each other “snow. / crows” which really should just never work. Thus endeth my smug satisfaction at my own cleverness. At least for today.
